This is my thinking-in-public place -- the spot where many interests intersect and find expression... after all of the venom's removed. Mean is easier, I have to admit. But it wounds in ways that cannot be rewound. So what's printed here is what has been thought out.
What am I likely to think about? Words, to begin with. They've entertained, amused, motivated, and consoled me for decades. They're the friend who never leaves me or bores me or makes me eat things that shouldn't pass through my lips. They're my refuge. |
After that is performance of every kind -- how well an ad creates desire, how well a speech draws laughter, or how fast a car hits sixty (which, for my car, will be seven years from now).
And, finally, I think about dimwits -- how the country that used to watch the GE College Bowl on TV (and could answer the questions) turned to Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? (and couldn't answer much) and how Mark Twain was right: "Suppose you were an idiot and suppose you were a member of Congress, but I repeat myself." |
